We are currently going through a sermon series on The Gospel According to John. Please join us as we study this book about the life of Jesus!
But what is the purpose or goal of this book? Well, John tells us in John 20:30-31.
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
So what this teaches us is that John is NOT writing to simply ask us to be spectators of Jesus or just to simply chronicle His life; rather, John is writing to make a case for the identify of Jesus so that once we see and understand who Jesus is, we would then believe in Jesus, that He is the Son of God, and that by believing we would have life in His name!
Dear friend, I do not know the state of your soul, but I invite you to come hear these sermons on the book of John. If you don’t know Jesus, I pray that through the preaching of this book, the Holy Spirit would draw you out of darkness and into light; out of death and into life.
But if you do know Jesus, I pray that through these sermons, the Holy Spirit would (as Dr. R.C. Sproul once said) take you from light to more light, life to more life, faith to more faith, and grace to more grace. I pray that we would continue to sit at the feet of Jesus, abide with Him and feed on Him.
