Character Before Service: Nine Biblical Qualifications for Deacons

The month of August is Leadership Month at Redeemer.  Last week, Lash Lesh preached on Leadership from the book of Proverbs.  Next week, Darol Timberlake will preach on the office of Elder. Today, we focus on the office of Deacon.

The Bible teaches us to look for these character qualifications in our nominees for Deacons before they serve in the office.  They come from Paul’s letter to Timothy in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.

Point 1: Dignified v. 8

 Point 2: Not Double-Tongued v. 8

Point 3: Not Addicted to Much Wine v. 8

Point 4: Not Greedy for Dishonest Gain v. 8

Point 5: Hold the Mystery of the Faith with a Clear Conscience v. 9

Point 6: Blameless v. 10

Point 7: Qualifications for Wives v. 11

Point 8: Husband of One Wife v. 12

Point 9: Managing Children and Household Well v. 12
